Personal Grooming Tips For Working Women

Dressing for success includes more than just choosing the right outfit. To complete your professional look you must also consider accessories and personal grooming.

You should always dress to impress clients, investors, and customers, because a winning sales pitch is not enough to seal the deal. A woman's professional appearance needs to support her professional accomplishments.

If your business attire is distracting because it is too sexy, drab, or colorful, your business contacts may focus on how you look, not on your business skills.

Simple, But Important Grooming Tips for Business Women
Perfumes, Scents, and Odors in the Workplace: Do not let the first impression you make about yourself be your personal scent preferences!
Avoid wearing perfume and heavily-scented products in all business settings. You might like them, but they have no place in a business environment. Scents can trigger asthma, overpower a room, and are often more offensive than pleasing to others.

Never smell like smoke (if you smoke in a car, your clothing will always pick up the odor).

How to Present Professional Looking Fingernails and Hands:
Women often use their hands to talk with so they become a focal point. It is important to have hands and fingernails looking professional -- not like you are heading out for a wild night on the town.
Nails should be clean, and trimmed or sculpted. Avoid wearing unusual or shocking nail colors. Nail art and nail jewels are not acceptable for business meetings.

Hairstyling Tips for Business Women:
Style should be neat and conservative, and preferably off the face. With few exceptions, hair color should not be shocking or unusual (leave blue hair for Halloween). Hair sprays and gels that have a strong scent or odor should be avoided.

Business Makeup Advice:
Keep it simple and appropriate for daytime. Wearing no makeup at all is almost as bad as wearing too much makeup.

Appropriate Jewelery for Business Women:
Jewelery should not be noisy (no metal bangle bracelets), too large, or costume jewelry. Keep earrings small, simple, and above the earlobe.
It is better to wear no jewelry at all, than too wear too much jewelry. But all business women should at least wear a nice, conservative wrist watch.

Demonstrating that you care about your personal appearance communicates to the person you are meeting with that they are important to you. Paying attention to the details of your appearance sends a message to others that you will also pay close attention to business details, and the needs of your customers and clients.

Career or Family?

Being a woman, would you give up your career and happily become a housewife..or would you give up your love for career.
When it comes to work versus romance, the stereotype has been that men put a premium on career goals while women focus more on family and friends. Not so, according to a study published recently in the scientific journal "Gender Issues."
Men were more willing than women to sacrifice achievement for a romantic relationship, according to the study conducted by Catherine Mosher of Duke University Medical Center and Sharon Danoff-Burg at the University of Albany.
Researchers asked 237 undergraduates to rate the importance of goals such as financial success, career, education and contribution to society, as well as goals such as romantic relationships, marriage, children and friendship.
While 51 percent of the women prioritized romantic relationships over achievement goals, more than 61 percent of men did the same.

Anna might count herself in that camp. When her fiancee visited her at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, she wanted to spend as much time with him as possible to fortify their budding relationship -- even if that meant missing three classes, one with a quiz and a test review.
"I was not doing very well in the class to begin with, and the grade I made on that test did not help me at all," says the 20-year-old junior, who is studying aviation flight and management. "It was a stupid move on my behalf, of course, but honestly, well worth it."
Changing Dynamics-
Psychologist Ellen Klosson, in private practice in Washington, D.C., says this study may be more about the evolving relationship between women and the workplace than their preference for work over romance. It also points to the effect of family on career.
"For men, romance, then marriage, then children may be unlikely to lead to the interruption of their career," Klosson says. "For women, having children is likely to be more disruptive to their career."
Career-oriented women have been putting marriage and children on hold for decades, she notes.
"Women have been aware of the time pressure to establish themselves in a career before starting a family, because of the difficulty of starting this task in their thirties and forties," she says. "I think what we are seeing in this study is the solidification of this trend..
So if you had one option, what would you choose-Family or Career?

Your spouse may be betraying you or your spouse could be innocent. How would you know? The feeling is just killing you.

Lets examine the following signs and symptoms..They will help you towards the truth.

1)" We Are Just Friends"
This Is A very common phrase used by a cheating spouse or a spouse who is no more interested in you.

2) A sudden need of privacy
if things which were shared openly by both of you, suddenly become a private affair, then .it should ring a bell..if he/she suddenly changes the account passwords without telling you..if your spouse does not just let the mobile out of his/her sight.then something definately is cooking.

3)"I need more Space"

Is Facebook Responsible For Divorces?

So let me begin by asking the big question- is Facebook or other social networking sites responsible for broken marriages?..I know what you are thinking..No,not possible..

Well Lets get the statistics on board.Social networking sites like Facebook is the reason couples are experiencing break ups and the percentage is not acute..Using data compiled by 'Peoples Social Survey' where more than 16000 divorce cases have been analysed from 2001 to 2011, More than 30% Divorces have occured due to Facebook and such sites..

A recent survey conducted by a UK based divorce website disclosed that 33% behaviour divorce petitions filed cite Facebook as a Cause for filing for divorce in 2011..In 2009 the figure was 20%.

5000 people were surveyed by Divorce Online, the UK divorce website, during 2009 and 2011 covering Facebook as a means to check behaviour of spouse with the opposite sex.
* 3 reasons that came out on the top for listing Facebook in divorce petitions  were 1)inappropriate messages sent to opposite sex, 2)obscene pictures and 3)eventually infidelity.

Another report by the American Academy Of Matrimonial Lawyers claims that more than 80% of U.S divorce attorneys say that they have seen the number of cases involving social media increase drastically.

Experts say that nowadays with facebook it is easier to start extra marital affairs as it only takes a few clicks to reconnect with a old flame.

Most of the research by clinicians and family scientists have indicated that suspicion is the major emotional factor that marks the beginning of the end..Suspicion leads to insecurity, pain and depression..A person suspects his or her soulmate even if he or she is innocent.
Extramaritial affair is other reason leading to divorces..

So you may be innocent or you may have betrayed your soulmate. But in any case chances of damage are very very high..30% is not a small figure..30 broken marriages out of 100 is alarming..Very Alarming!

Can We Question ourselves today. Was life more calm and happy before such sites ran havoc in our lives?..
Who is to be blamed,Facebook or Us?
What have we gained by spending hours and hours on facebook?
What have we lost? Was it worth it after all??.

Heart Disease, No-1 Killer In Women

When you hear the term 'Heart Disease,' what is your first reaction? Like many women, you may think, “That’s a man’s disease” or “Not my problem.”
But here is The Heart Truth: Heart disease is the number one killer of women . Most women don’t know this. But it is vital that you know it—and know what it means for you.

One woman dies almost every minute from Heart Disease.Yet Studies Show that only 21%One woman view Heart Disease as Health Threat.

Worldwide 8.6 million women die of heart disease each year, accounting for a third of all deaths in women. With all the risk factors common to men additionally use of Oral Contraceptive pills is there in women. So women should be educated about everything they need to know about their heart.

According to statistics, the mortality rate among women suffering from cardiovascular diseases is also higher than that of men across the world, including India. The main reason behind the increased mortality rate in women is the changes in lifestyle in metropolitan cities. In big cities women are working late shifts and more and more women are taking help of smoking and drinking to deal with the stress of personal and professional life.

                                                  'Risk Factors'

1) Non Modifiable : Age , Family history and sex.

2) Modifiable :
High blood pressure, High cholesterol, Obesity , smoking, Alcohol, Unhealthy Diet, Stress and depression, Sedentary lifestyle.

Following are the Risk Factors That Play a Bigger Role in Women.
These factors affect both men and women, but doctors are finding that they may have a bigger impact on women:

a) Diabetes. This in particular is a more potent risk factor for women. Women who have diabetes have a four to five times more elevated risk for heart disease.

b) Birth Control Pills : Studies show that women who use high-dose birth control pills are more likely to have a heart attack or stroke because blood clots are more likely to form in the blood vessels.

Much of this information comes from studies of birth control pills containing higher doses of hormones than those commonly used today. Still, the risks of using low-dose pills are not fully known.
Therefore, if you are now taking any kind of birth control pill or are considering using one, keep these guidelines in mind: Don’t mix smoking and “the pill.” If you smoke cigarettes, make a serious effort to quit. If you cannot quit, choose a different form of birth control.

SYMPTOMS

Breast Cancer-Save Yourself

Breast Cancer is a disease that not only breaks down a woman emotionally but also physically and financially.
So Every woman wants to know what she can do to lower her risk of breast cancer.

Risk Factors

1)Being a Woman
Just being a woman is the biggest risk factor for developing breast cancer. There are about 190,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer and 60,000 cases of non-invasive breast cancer this year in Indian women.

2)Age
As with many other diseases, your risk of breast cancer goes up as you get older. About two out of three invasive breast cancers are found in women 55 or older.

3)Family History
Women with close relatives who've been diagnosed with breast cancer have a higher risk of developing the disease. If you've had one first-degree female relative (sister, mother, daughter) diagnosed with breast cancer, your risk is doubled.

4)Genetics
About 5% to 10% of breast cancers are thought to be hereditary, caused by abnormal genes passed from parent to child.

5)Personal History of Breast Cancer
If you've been diagnosed with breast cancer, you're 3 to 4 times more likely to develop a new cancer in the other breast or a different part of the same breast. This risk is different from the risk of the original cancer coming back (called risk of recurrence).

6)Certain Breast Changes
If you've been diagnosed with certain benign (not cancer) breast conditions, you may have a higher risk of breast cancer. There are several types of benign breast conditions that affect breast cancer risk

7)Race/Ethnicity
White women are slightly more likely to develop breast cancer than African American, Hispanic, and Asian women. But African American women are more likely to develop more aggressive, more advanced-stage breast cancer that is diagnosed at a young age.

8)Being Overweight
Overweight and obese women have a higher risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer compared to women who maintain a healthy weight, especially after menopause. Being overweight also can increase the risk of the breast cancer coming back (recurrence) in women who have had the disease.

9)Pregnancy History
Women who haven’t had a full-term pregnancy or have their first child after age 30 have a higher risk of breast cancer compared to women who gave birth before age 30.

10)Breastfeeding History
Breastfeeding can lower breast cancer risk, especially if a woman breastfeeds for longer than 1 year.

11)Menstrual History
Women who started menstruating (having periods) younger than age 12 have a higher risk of breast cancer later in life. The same is true for women who go through menopause when they're older than 55.

12)Using HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy)
Current or recent past users of HRT have a higher risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer. Since 2002 when research linked HRT and risk, the number of women taking HRT has dropped dramatically.

13)Drinking Alcohol
Research consistently shows that drinking alcoholic beverages -- beer, wine, and liquor -- increases a woman's risk of hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer.

14)Having Dense Breasts
Research has shown that dense breasts can be 6 times more likely to develop cancer and can make it harder for mammograms to detect breast cancer.

15)Lack of Exercise
Research shows a link between exercising regularly at a moderate or intense level for 4 to 7 hours per week and a lower risk of breast cancer

16)Smoking
Smoking causes a number of diseases and is linked to a higher risk of breast cancer in younger, premenopausal women. Research also has shown that there may be link between very heavy second-hand smoke exposure and breast cancer risk in postmenopausal women.

Emerging Risks:

Low of Vitamin D Levels
Research suggests that women with low levels of vitamin D have a higher risk of breast cancer. Vitamin D may play a role in controlling normal breast cell growth and may be able to stop breast cancer cells from growing.

Eating Unhealthy Food
Diet is thought to be at least partly responsible for about 30% to 40% of all cancers. No food or diet can prevent you from getting breast cancer. But some foods can make your body the healthiest it can be, boost your immune system, and help keep your risk for breast cancer as low as possible.

Avoid the avoidable and save yourself!!

Should We Respect Only Highly Paid People ?

Vivek Pradhan was not a happy man. Even the plush comfort of the air-conditioned compartment of the Shatabdi express could not cool his frayed nerves. He was the Project Manager and still not entitled to air travel.
"Are you from the software industry sir," the man beside him was staring appreciatively at the laptop.

Vivek glanced briefly and mumbled in affirmation, handling the laptop now  with exaggerated care and importance as if it were an expensive car.

"You people have brought so much advancement to the country sir. Today everything is getting computerized."

"Thanks," smiled Vivek, turning around to give the man a look.He probably was a railway sportsman making the most of his free traveling pass.

"You people always amaze me," the man continued, "You sit in an office and write something on a computer and it does so many big things outside."

Vivek smiled "It is not as simple as that my friend. It is not just a question of writing a few lines. There is a lot of process that goes behind it." For a moment, he was tempted to explain the entire Software Development Lifecycle but restrained himself to a single statement. "It is complex, very complex."

"It has to be.  No wonder you people are so highly paid," came the reply.

This was not turning out as Vivek had thought."Everyone just sees the money. No one sees the amount of hard work we have to put in.Just because we sit in an air-conditioned office does not mean our brows do not sweat."

He had the man where he wanted him and it was time to drive home the point.

"Let me give you an example. Take this train. The entire railway reservation system is computerized. You can book a train ticket between any two stations from any of the hundreds of computerized booking centres across the country. Thousands of transactions accessing a single database, at a time concurrency; data integrity, locking, data security. Do you understand
the complexity in designing and coding such a system?"

The man was stuck with amazement, like a child at a planetarium. This was something big and beyond his imagination. "You design and code such things."

"I used to," Vivek paused for effect, "But now I am the Project Manager,"

"Oh!" sighed the man, as if the storm had passed over, "so your life is easy now."

It was like being told the fire was better than the frying pan. The man had to be given a feel of the heat.
"To tell you about the pressures, there is the customer
at one end always changing his requirements, the user wanting something else and your boss always expecting you to have finished it yesterday. My friend, you don't know what it is to be in the line of fire."

The man sat back in his chair, his eyes closed as if in realization. When he spoke after sometime, it was with a calm certainty that surprised Vivek.

"I know sir, I know what it is to be in the line of fire," He was staring blankly as if no passenger, no train existed, just a vast expanse of time.

"There were 30 of us when we were ordered to capture Point 4875 in the cover of the night. The enemy was firing from the top. There was no knowing where the next bullet was going to come from and for whom. In the morning when we finally hoisted our Country Flag at the top only 4 of us were alive."

"You are a..."

"I am Lieutenant Sushant from the 13 J&K Rifles on duty at Peak 4875 in Kargil.

Vivek looked at him in disbelief not sure of his reply. Abruptly he switched off the laptop. It seemed trivial, even insulting to edit a word document in the presence of a man for whom valour and duty was a daily part of life; a valour and sense of duty which he had so far attributed only to epical heroes.

The train slowed down as it pulled into the station and Lieutenant Sushant picked up his bags to alight.

"It was nice meeting you sir."

Vivek fumbled with the handshake. This hand had climbed mountains, pressed the trigger, and hoisted the flag. Suddenly as if by impulse,he stood at attention and his right hand went up in an impromptu salute. It was the least he felt he could do for the country.

Live humbly, there are great people around us, let us learn!
